(NASDAQ: INKT chart, msgs), developer of scalable Internet infrastructure software, today announced that T-Mobil, the German arm of T-Mobile International AG, is showcasing the Inktomi Traffic Server network cache for wireless platform with its General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) service at CeBIT 2001. T-Mobil has more than 20 million customers and some 9,000 employees. The 'always on' nature of GPRS, combined with the growing volume of mobile users, places significant demands on the T-Mobil network. Proven in the world's largest networks, the Inktomi Traffic Server platform is expected to significantly improve end user performance for GPRS users, providing them with fast, reliable access to Web-based content and applications. All devices connected to the GPRS service will benefit from this enhanced quality of service without the need for additional client side software. "Our aim is to make our GPRS network more efficient through improving data transmission speeds - which is critical in today's mobile Internet age," said Rainer Bremer, Senior Consultant, IP Access Network at T-Mobil. "Users want access to content, immediately, regardless of location, on the mobile terminal of their choice without the need for additional software at the client. After evaluating several infrastructure solutions, Inktomi impressed us by excelling in performance." The introduction of GPRS will drive demand for applications such as Internet connectivity, messaging and email, which will place greater demands on the network for performance and bandwidth. The Inktomi Traffic Server software for wireless platform will enable T-Mobil to improve bandwidth efficiency and optimize the quality of service to the end user device. Inktomi's infrastructure technology can support audio and streaming formats as well as static Web content. "We are excited to be working with T-Mobil on the development of their GPRS platform and demonstration of this solution at CeBIT," said Giovanni Bindoni, European managing director at Inktomi. "As mobile communications converges with the Internet, mobile networks need to become more powerful and capable of moving data intelligently. High-speed data communications and bandwidth-on-demand are critical components of next-generation wireless networks and Inktomi's leading technology provides T-Mobil with the underlying infrastructure to support these capabilities." About T-Mobil T-Mobil is one of Europe's leading mobile communication operator with some 20 million customers. Deutsche Telekom's subsidiary was one of the first operators Europe-wide to bring a complete GPRS -coverage to its network.
