How do you measure productivity in a situation where a new machine today allows you to live when just a couple of years before you would have surely died? May not make a whole hellova lot of difference to the productivity increase in medicine in general, but if you happen to be that guy who lives to see his family another day, it makes all the difference in the world. But, of course, none of this has anything to do with making money or making the economy hum, right? How much would the average person pay for five extra years of healthy life?
