I bet I could write a program that would produce outputs that were funny and in context at least some of the time. We've seen a tremendous spread here as to what is and isn't funny. Not much of a parameter. Any other Americans here find the Leningrad Cowboys any funnier than "quirky and weird"? If you haven't seen them, I recommend it just to get an insight into how truly bizarre the Russian sense of humor is.

A friend of mine told me about this Russian fellow he worked with who would get email jokes from other Russian friends and start rolling in the aisles. He made such a fuss that people would ask what was so funny, and he'd translate them. The jokes often had a really cruel or sadistic edge frequently with death or dismemberment (in really grotesque ways) in the punch line. People would stand there like deer in the headlights waiting for the "funny part". But that was it: And then Boris head splattered all over room! Ha! Ha! Ha! Go figure.
