McKinley is on the way. Apparently on compiled code, Merced does pretty darn good (article on Ace's recently)... and McKinley should do much, much better. Merced allowed software development, McKinley will start bringing in cash... 0.13 micron McKinley should start opening the floodgates.- will intel and m$ft benefit from the dot-com implosion in terms of acquiring free resources and executing what others *just* promised to execute. I hope Intel does, but I'm not sure they're positioned where the need to be to execute across the board. I think Intel is positioned well from an infrastructure building standpoint. I've seen no aquisitions which would lead me to believe that Intel is going to pick up any dot-com pieces at this point... nor should they... the models didn't work. Intel already does most of it's direct business through the internet (which is where the internet has always done best)... so I don't see that as a high-growth area.- profitability in the trade of "selling spades and shovels" vs. "gold searching" (internet-plumbing space) Your words are obscure... and hold no matter for me...- ultimate INTEL superiority over *any* other mpu manufacturer, no matter what (I mean no matter what ML, SSB, or Meeker "think" :-) I would like to see it, and I think AMD's recent improvement will cause Intel to "find religion" again. I really want to see what McKinley does. That could be a huge step in the right direction. The XScale architecture is also tough to beet in its niche. The P4, however, is too controversial at this point. It doesn't look "ultimately superior" today. It may look stronger in a year with Northwood + software optimization, but then again, AMD will look stronger then as well with the K8 starting to hit the streets. A next generation P4 or event a new P8 architecture may be required to create a clear separation...Isn't this a more fulfilling mental game than churning politics :-) .... but I like politics!!!!
