Changes in consumer spending have historically closely tracked changes in net worth. We'll see if that holds true once again...

As long as we're throwing ideas out there, how 'bout making it mandatory that the $$$ is spent on American products and slash the trade deficit <gg>. We could really watch foreign dollars scramble!!

not to mention any slow down in spending will ultimately translates into fewer jobs, which will provide negative feedback into the consumption circuit.
