Thomas, you and CB are both right about fuel consumption. There was technology to boost fuel efficiency but the auto makers decided that consumers did not want to pay the added cost example 3 or 4speed automatics or 4 or 5 speed manual transmission. the extra gear costs but will boost gas mileage.Radial tires. Mechanical Fuel injection systems were around - some early 60s Corvettes had it. BMW had it on its 2002 tii in 1972 . FI boosts power and efficiency but costs $. Electronic fuel injection became more common in the mid 80s. If you want great gas mileage you need to sacrifice size/ weight. Are you familiar with TL & EV ? -g- Mike ho ho ho
