Grace:

Much appreciated.

So far, I've visited several web sites and I agree with you about the pixel scamarama.

What I want is a SMALL box that takes good digital video and acceptable pics. It looks like they all have excellent sound, although that isn't terribly important to me. (Airplane noises being what they are..... LOUD). (g)

Most come with good Lith rechargeables (of course the decent AH ones are "accessories"). I must admit to being surprised at how low the current drain is on the better ones.

I have visited a few stores as well and driven the sales guys crazy with the many questions. Can't think of a worse customer for them than a tech analyst for this type of product. (g)

Best, Earlie

I'm a huge digital photography freak and the camera I recommend to ANYONE who asks is the Canon S100 Digital Elph ($499)

It is the size of a pack of playing cards, uses compactflash storage cards, and comes with a changeable lithium battery pack and recharger. Works GREAT, produces incredible images at 1600x1200, with varying levels of compression up to 1.5 megabyte files.. Nice zoom lens, great response, and it fits in your jeans pocket without you knowing it is there.

There are cameras out there with more features and bigger lenses, but they are all so big that you never want to take them around with you.

Also, whenever I pull out this camera everyone "oohs" and "aaahs" at it, they cant believe how small it is. I should start getting referral fees from Canon, I've sold so many of them.

Run, don't walk, and buy this camera. You will not be disappointed.

BTW- one nice thing about their custom lithium battery pack is that you can leave it sitting in the camera for weeks and it won't lose its charge. Unlike NiMH batteries that every other camera on earth uses, which lose their charge over a period of 4-5 days of inactivity.
