You are going to simply go about life spreading good cheer and warm thoughts. Certainly nothing wrong with that. Actually I understand that you will survive no matter what happens. And you'll be happy regardless of the outcome. nope... that's not what i'm saying... what i'm saying is that i have tasted the new cookies (the new network economy) and i can never go back to the old cookies (the old business model economy - and the cold war - and the strained foreign relations - and the fear of change, etc., etc., etc.) because of the fear in the hearts of the "old wealth - power structure" (don't make me name names please - i'm not here to make monsters or single out any individuals) lots of road blocks have been thrown into the path of the entrepreneurs of the information revolution. it has slowed the progress temporarily but doesn't have a chance in hell of stopping it. because of the existence of the internet, we now have access to instant information and instant mutual communication and we no longer have to sit in isolation as the "old fear based power structure" fumbles around throwing rocks in the road while they try to figure out how to either stop it or to take control of the "new" economy. but they can't because it belongs to everyone and to no one. we are quite free, as a global people, to make an end run around those people and policies who are trying to turn back the clock and slow down the revolution. this isn't a fight or war with anyone, it's an economic model race... if anyone wants to stop and argue or fight they're welcome, but meanwhile, those who have seen and tasted the new cookies (the information revolution and the networked economy) can see the vision of the future where tools and bits and bytes are ALMOST FREE and they know that the sooner that happens, the sooner the fighting and the fear and the sense of lacking will be alleviated. WHY AM I TELLING YOU THIS! YOU KNOW ALL OF THIS AS WELL AS ANYONE HERE! you may not know this and many who do, or once did know, may have forgotten, but all the investment that went into the new tech sector in the past few years was not just greedy game players trying to outguess each other for the sake of walking out early with a handful of cookies. the "old economy" would have none of it until they saw the huge amount of money pouring into the sector from the bank accounts of people like me and you who saw the vision and the promise of a globe, totally connected by a network of light, speeding communication and information to every human being on the planet for "almost free". that vision is what got me into the market. i was more than happy to help support the information revolution by buying shares and investing money in companies that were pursuing and building that dream - AND I STILL AM!! NOTE: there was a time last year when i started buying options - that was when i fell into the greedy game of trying to outguess other investors for the sake of walking out early with a handful of cookies. options are NOT an investment in companies that helps fund their growth (until they are exercised and shares are bought). i learned a lesson about greed.how does a shlub like myself ever see the possibility of retiring early if we can't try to get a handfull of the cookies... i will NEVER retire, early or otherwise. i am an INFJ, the knight, remember? the biggest part of my reason for living is to create and teach and express. why would i ever want to quit that? and remember that the cookies of stardust cooked by starlight are "almost free". the cookie story is a capsule of my view of how the current thinking or "climate" (in the USA) is not as focused on the vision and the promise of the information revolution and the global networked economy as it was for the past five years or so. and i'm here to SHOUT that WE don't have to lose our focus or faith in the dream and that the desire and resolve burns inside me as bright as ever and WE don't have to wait for the climate to change to continue building the road. i am still fully invested in QCOM and JDSU (though it isn't much money now). i still believe in the new network business model. the work i do is contributing to the growth of that vision. one more revolutionist tidbit... i'm trying to use and fill up every bit of bandwidth i can. the quicker the highway fills up, the quicker we will make it BIGGER. -bytehog (whew. pour me a beer dude - now it is time for me to kick back and listen to a little "night" music.)
