Motorola says SEC probing company's analyst talks
MOTOROLA INC said late on Thursday the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has made an "informal inquiry" about the company's discussions with analysts this month. The company said the SEC is probing the talks with analysts, who later released research reports with reduced first-quarter earnings estimates, as a possible violation of the Regulation Fair Disclosure, or Reg FD, rule. The act, adopted last October, stipulates companies must evenhandedly distribute market-sensitive financial information. "We don't believe that there has been any violation of Rule FD because we have not issued or discussed any new information at all since Feb. 23," Motorola spokesman Scott Wyman said.
