>If the economy continues to slide, so will QCOM.

that is indeed what does worry me. JDSU gave good guidance, their customers (equipment makers) were giving good guidance and yet somehow, everyone warned. Fortunately, QCOM does have sales overseas to help cushion earnings.

Nonetheless, i've decided it never hurts to have a little insurance and hedge. It goes up i make money, it goes down i don't get hurt as bad.

if we get another run up, i'll do one more round of hedging. And then, i should be done.

Rebuttal to : "The economy sucks, therefore sell QCOM -- I believe that Korea (post- Asian currency crisis) and ... Japan (post - Nikkei 39,000, Japanese market "different" [Ha !], etc.) have demonstrated that a (roughly) $30 a month cost to be able to have wireless service is something people will CLING to, even in rough economic times.

This same concept of : the perceived "luxury," extraneous service is finally understood to be something like water utility service, or electric service (i.e. -- something people will hang on to, even when money gets "tight") ...

apparently "hit" Wall Street (recently) regarding cable TV service.

I think it is also true with wireless service.

The number of wireless devices sold each year is (I believe) MUCH larger than the number of personal computers sold each year.

(In my opinion ...) NONE of these recent announcements (YHOO sucks, MOT sucks, ORCL sucks, INTC sucks, PALM sucks, etc.) ...

has ANYTHING to do with what Qualcomm will achieve over the next few years.

Jon.

The economy sucks, therefore sell QCOM.

Rick - I think PALM sucks, therefore sell QCOM definitely has some validity in the current market (i.e., the short-term). Why shouldn't cell phone sales slip, just like PDA's have, in a softening economy?

Plus you have the Korean news that will definitely affect handset sales in Korea in QCOM's Q3. I remember only too well how many of us (me included) ignored the impact on QCOM of the end of the Korean handset subsidy last June.

One positive is that QCOM made reference to slow sales in Korea until July, so maybe they factored the current news in. All I know is that in the near-term, I am nervous for the stock price.
