PMCS has much more closely tied to LU performance and the lower speed OC's. LU was so smart that they felt the OC-48 did not have enough use to warrant development. The lag in the broadband build out process is being dictated by the last mile connections. PMCS hardware is more oriented to the last mile connections. Last I knew PMCS was just now expected to have their first OC-192. Whereas AMCC just announced their OC-768.

I do not see PMCS as a real threat, nor their problems.

AMCC has a quite unique market for integrating more and more of the systems on a single chip or board. Sooner or later AMCC equipment will be indispensable, and so long as there is a need AMCC will have a market. The market is the issue however. That NT channel check feels real good. A CSCO rep. said similar a few weeks ago. The market issue needs watching.
