I did it in 1982. I was deeply into a bank line of credit (interest of all kinds were deductible from income tax then) and into broker's margin to buy an assortment of discounted closed-end funds on US stocks. Chiefly Central Securities and Adams Express. It worked out very well. But it would be disastrous (on the long side) to try that now.

Right now I am hanging onto my Dow put LEAPS. May add more if the Dow goes on back up. Happily am in a position to choose rather than being forced.
