Analysis - Tuesday, March 27, 2001 8 pm
At the highs today the Dow was up 273 points, and it
closed up near the highs, up 260 points for the day. Today was
another very good day for the Dow, but as we have told you, it
in no way alters the main trend of the stock market at this
time. While we were in the 1982 to 2000 Bull Market there
were numerous very severe declines, which caused many
investors to assume the long-term Bull Market was over, and
that we were then in a new Bear Market. No matter how severe
those declines were, the long-term trend did not change, and
new highs followed every single decline, no matter how severe
that decline was. Back in the first few days of this month we
told you that if the Dow fell below 9571 intraday the Yearly
Chart would turn down for the first time since the 1982 Bear
Market lows. We also stated that while this would mean
that we were now in the first true Bear Market of the last 19
years, we expected the Dow to reach at least a short-term low
either the same day that it fell below 9571 intraday, or
within one or two days after falling below 9571 intraday. The Dow
fell below 9571 intraday on March 21, and ultimately fell to a
low of 9047 intrraday on March 22. We have since been
rallying off that low, but to this point no new buy signal has
been given. Despite the rally we have seen this month, to this
point we remain on a long-term sell signal. In fact, despite
the rally we have seen so far this week, we remain on a long-
term sell signal, and we are not even close to a new buy
signal, even if the Dow continues higher tomorrow. There has
been no change in our long-term position on the market at
this point. We still believe that no matter what kind of
rally we see over the next few days or weeks, new lows are
still coming this year. So, we would not do any new buying at
this time. We will give you new instructions tomorrow
evening
