I don't know why you think it is a virtue to be extremist on both ends of the spectrum. It's normal for a child to strongly hold extreme positions in the absence of experience. For an adult to flip flop between the left and right poles of intellecutal pursuits show more than ignorance, it shows a real dummy.

His major turning point where he walked away from the left was when this woman a CPA that he had arranged to do work for the Black Panther Party was shot dead. Not only was he disturbed by her murder but also that the left didn't care. He felt that it was because of the drug dealing in the Black Panther Party and that she knew to much.
