Maria, that words of Mr. Frye have been my words for several years. But when moi speaks who cares. When Mr. Frye speaks many ears listen.

SGI has irix and mips and irix can do things today that cannot be done with Linux. But SGI is closely aligned with development in Linux and are the fathers of the OpenGL that is pretty much the vhs standard of 3D. I'm not familiar with what IBM hardware or iron does specifically but it is for the most part generic iron just like Suns generic iron. I see a much smaller subset of capability within the hardware of either sun or ibm in terms of the value of using linux or their own inhouse OS. So Mr Frye's comments on solaris are very valid and may in some way apply to irix, but SGI is in close with the Linux community and if it make sense in the future they could port linux to have and use the unique capabilities of the mips systems. In fact there is linux for mips now.

But as Mr. Frye says most users are OS and hardware agnostic and what an application that does the job. I see SGI with the ability to give customer applications that do the job with good to the best value.
