He told me that the INTEL rep ... bought a DURON system.

When I worked for Definicon, all the coprocessor boards that Motorola purchased from us were NS32032 based. This was not because the NS32032 based product was better.

There are several explanations of the Intel rep's purchase.

The most likely is that he personally liked the Duron. Along these lines, I would not be at all surprised that GhostWhisperer, an Ace's Hardware poster that designs clock distribution networks, apparently for a future P4 variant, owns an Athlon based system.

Another potential is that he was directed to do so by Intel, as part of a program to evaluate the competition.
