Ted - Re"I have to say that I unfairly gave Whitman sh*t knowing full well she has done a good job when she was governor of New Jersey. I did not know and still do not know her stand on environmental issues."

Whitman actually tried to lobby Shrub in favor of CO2 regulation. But he pulled the rug out from under her and renounced CO2 controls before he even talked to her. He reviewed all the facts provided to him by his controllers -- coal and oil companies and congressional conservatives -- and then he made the tough call.

I almost responded (unfairly) when you first made that Whitman post. I was born and raised in New Jersey. From my perspective, I always considered Whitman a moderate on the environment. I think she will give the environmentalists a fair shake but will be pragmatic regarding some of their more extremist positions. I am anxious to see how she rules in the upper Hudson River dredging controversy. I believe the ruling comes out of EPA next month. I believe she will rule against it. I can all ready see the pseudo
environmentalist liberal Democrats coming out screaming that Whitman/Bush/Republicans are soft on removing PCBs from the environment. In fact, most of the people I have
spoken to on this issue (including some I consider true environmentalist) also oppose the dredging.
