I'll take a look at the von Mises book. I must say, though, that just because von Mises thinks thus-and-so doesn't mean the matter is solved. Whatever you call what the Fed doesn't back, there's far more of it than there is of whatever you call what the Fed backs. When it's sloshing all over the world in the form of digital information on electronic devices, it's closer to free market than we've ever had in recorded history.
