I can't see how Intel can avoid suffering from the same problem. I agree that it looks to be a contrived example, but I can also see how a compiler could optimize SPEC this way. Would Intel put in hardware specifically to run SPEC better? Is this why Intel's compilers do so well at SPEC and so horrible (okay, mediocre) on almost everything else?
