"Gelsinger also said 64-bit client computers running a 64-bit version of Windows XP will hit the market in the second half of this year."

Cool! I didn't know the Hammers were going to be out so soon!

re: "1.7GHz version of the Pentium 4 chip "very shortly.""
Will that be like the 1.13 GHz and 1 GHz P3 launches?

re:"On the IA-32 front, Gelsinger said an SDRAM (synchronous DRAM) version of the Pentium 4, code-named Brookdale, will arrive by the end of the year."

WOW, I'll have to bookmark that -- a 9 month pre-announcement for a chipset. It had better be DDR, because by that time SDR will be obsolete.

"On the IA-64 front, Gelsinger said that Intel's McKinley chip is still set to go to market next year"

LOL, Glesinger is learning, it gives him 21 months to ship the first McKinley.

The sweet spot is generally well below the peak shippable speed grade. If Intel ships 1.7 GHz, the sweet spot will probably be about 1.5 GHz.

Paul,

I think the announcement is consistent with what I said. I said sweet spot, not the highest speed grade. For 1.7 launch, Intel probably needs a sweet spot slightly abouve 1.5GHz. If the sweet spot moves to 1.7 - 1.8, Intel can launch 2 GHz speed grade.
