Paul,

I knew that Bush would be an environmental nightmare, but I had no idea how bad:

March 28 — Interior Secretary Gale Norton is sending letters out this week asking state officials for suggestions that could lead to opening up national monuments created by former President Clinton to oil drilling, coal mining and other development. The move comes as House Republicans push a plan to alter the boundaries of some monuments, legislation environmentalists are watching closely.

All of the coal in the west is in shallow layers, and is accessible strictly by strip mining- which completely destroys the surface and severely contaminates groundwater. I testified at a Congressional hearing in 1973 wrt protecting the Escalante, and Bush is proposing to wipe it off the face of the map.

The "man" is a nightmare.
