Re: I think MS Outlook is the worst e-mail program ever..

How can you say that?

We recently had someone here run into one of the charming features of Outlook 2000 .pst (mailbox) files. It turns out that it is surprisingly easy for a busy user like a division director who sends and receives many files with large attachments, to have his .pst mailbox archive file exceed 2 gig. When that happens, the mailbox is silently corrupted.

The next attempt to access the mailbox results only in an error message.

Microsoft has a downloadable utility that repairs the file, but they charge $350 (have your credit card ready) for it.

True story.

Microsoft has now released an obscure patch (and Outlook 2000 SR-1 includes it) that blocks additions to the mailbox that would cause it to exceed the 2 gig limit, but it is not well publicized (the patch is free, the repair utility is not)

So - how can you possibly dislike a mail program with features and support like that? Where else could you get such an exceptional program?

:-)

Dan

Hey Ten,

Re: I think MS Outlook is the worst e-mail program ever..

While I agree that both MS Outlook & Outlook express are crap. I have to say that Lotus Notes for the Mac is far, far worse than either of them. Unfortunately Lotus is the standard for my company. I've never used it under Windows, but the Mac version really stinks.

Cheers,

Gary
