I agree with everything you've stated about the need for security. I have previously stated my deep admiration for our armed forces, and the deep trust I place in them. I just don't draw the same line forward from individual ownership of handguns to our national security or the Revolutionary War. I believe it is a bit of a stretch.

I can believe that the founding fathers had concerns about whether democracy would really work; remember, some wanted Washington to become King of America. However, I think that 200+ years of making it work, through the best and worst of times, have proved and reproved that it works. I believe that has reduced the need for a 'standing militia' that includes 'all able bodied men'. If it doesn't, then I haven't been getting my militia meeting notices in the mail...
