Dear Elmer:

You have a reading comprehension problem. You have yet to find one app that is compiled with Vtune other than the SPEC benches. Since you can't, you cannot accept that you are in error. Sounds like the P3 1.13 fiasco all over again. Do you have to be hit by a train to prove you are in the middle of the track? All you have to do is find one application that compiles with Vtune.

Yet, even if you accomplish this, the following statement stands or you would easily find proof of one "(A compiler that cannot produce running usable code on 99% of applications is not a real compiler)". Any normal commercial developer would not accept anything less than this (without being paid very well to put up with it on a time and materials basis). Going in the opposite direction, if the performance is so good, why isn't it being used for all apps?

All Vtune is is a Specialty Compiler useful for only a limited range of apps. In this case, it is apparent that it is only good for SPEC on Intel x86 CPUs. If it is that limited, and it appears to be that limited, it can never be a compiler anyone would reach for in compiling their latest program they wrote to do a specific task on their workstation. Which is part of the original stated goal of the SPEC Organization in the first place! The results of which is the continuing reduction of usefullness of their benchmark over time. They should have nipped this in the bud long ago.
