I myself have 'resisted' technology. I only 'upgraded' computers, printers, etc when I HAD TO based on what my cllients upgraded to. I did it GRUDGINGLY. It's a pain in the ass every time. Upgrade software? Full of bugs; learning curve that is completely unproductive (income-producing) for the self-employed. To this day, I do not have a cell phone. I don't WANT a cell phone. I don't WANT to be 'findable' 24/7 ... <g> My first real career break was with TXN, who hired me off campus upon completion of an MBA degree acquired night school. They, you probably know, attempted to develop their own PC -- stubbornly and typically TXN culture was to insist on their very own operating system ... going head-to-head against both IBM-comp and Apple. This was in early 80s. Naturally, the damned thing went no where ... and one day in mid-83, every employee arrived to find a brand-new TI PC on our desktops. (TI had 80,000 employees ww at the time). My gut reaction was "WTF is this?" Resentment. <g> ... they insisted we use them. I was used to mini-system with dumb terminal. That was even before "WordStar" days. One of my colleagues commented about a month later, seeing me distastefully fooling around with it, "What'dya do, beat it into submission?" He had heard me complain so much, you see <g> Another 'sign' that many people do NOT want to use the Internet. A 65-year-old uncle of mine finally acquiesced against his will and bought a PC. Because of incredible hype of the past five years, he felt he might 'be missing something.' Well, after having it a year, he's selling it. Says maybe once a week if that, uses it to look something up (like a reference tool). He doesn't think it's worth the connection charge. Obviously, these 'older, tech-resistant' generations will die off. But right now, there a helluva of people in this 'category.' ha ... sorry for the length of this post ... WOW! Check out the futures! ECB this a.m: no interest cuts ... guess that has something to do with it. bia
