Giving/taking what?
The energy, light and Love from God, our Creator, the source of all ONENESS, ONE with Christ - His Son - and every connected manifestation of this energy through EXAMPLES in ACTIONS throughout the ENTIRE universe.
If we are trying to read/understand anything through our personal clearing points driven by EGO - ie. that which takes, defines, labels, limits, restricts, consumes and controls this energy/light/Love - everything - even the innocense of little children - get characterized, conditionalized and qualified "relative to" something else.
So if the EGO runs into an example of innocense in an adult, this simply DOES NOT FIT "relative to" anything in the "taking energy" matrix of understanding which is driven through these possessive/controlling "friction points."
So EGO simply discards and casts aside this anamoly and simply "moves on" etc. For EGO doesn't care about any truth that cannot be defined, labeled, restricted, limited, categorized and controlled in a way that allows us to claim/possess and take credit for the receipt of energy from the ONE source.
Remember: Man - left to the design which is in opposition to freedom - is a CONSUMER of energy, light and Love. We are NOT the or even A source of energy, light and Love. We are simply a consumer when we are talking about things "relative to" the nature of this world - ie. the paradigm of understanding our EGOs reside in as consumers of energy/light/Love.
The "other world" - ie. spiritual world - which is from God, His Son, Jesus and all the angels and manifestations who have come and gone from this world but who are still here, but who have moved on with no beginning or end, etc. etc.....these words we read in the Bible are jabberwocky to our EGOs. There's a disconnect. We try to make sense of them from our limited powers which have been marginalized/limited by all the examples of refraction, filtering and conditionalizing which goes on in this world of limits and relativity which we live in.
Everywhere we turn there are more and more examples of taking, using, limiting, judging, defining, oppressing and controlling the energy, light and Love from this ONE source going on. And most of us either 1) sit and watch and do nothing; or 2) judge, blame and shame. Both 1 and 2 are part of the same "taking energy" matrix.
There is another option - call it Number 3: Letting Go and allowing oneself to simply become a conduit for His Light, Energy and Love. The problem relative to our EGO's point of view is that there is absolutely NOTHING we/I/You - or anyone - can do to claim credit for the Light, Energy and Love that will begin to naturally, freely and unconditionally begin to flow through you. For it's IMPOSSIBLE to claim any credit. And this is where your reference to the requirement/understanding of acknowledging Jesus Christ as Lord comes in. For Christ was/is and will forever "be" ONE with God.
Christ is already here with all of us today in the form of spirit, energy, light and Love throughout the world. This He promised when his physical body left this world 2000 years ago. He said He would return and He has. You don't have to go looking for Him in the external world for He isn't there. But if you knock - ie. by faith - and allow Him to enter your temple - ie. your body, heart, mind and soul - He certainly will. And He will bring the Father with Him. And they will certainly, bit by bit, not only find a home, but they will commune and clean out whatever dust, dirt and rot was left behind from the previous occupants.
For we are only conduits for the forces/energies from other side, too. It's only our EGO that confuses us into believing that we are somehow a source of Light, Energy and whatever. For we do possess the powers of God. We are all made in His likeness. But the use of the word "possession" is really a snare for it can be mistunderstood from our EGO as really some power which we own. Sure, we have rights to this power for we all have a FREE will, but if we use it selfishly we fall away from the understanding of our true nature. The veil of darkness gets pulled over us. And we know longer "see" and understand these truths. I know this firsthand. And I believe we ALL know this firsthand. For we are ALL connected to this same ONE source of ALL Energy, Light and Love.
So Chris, I have nothing. I'm simply a child of God. And so are all of us. Everything is His.
And the greatest example of God's Light, Energy and Love can be found in nature and among children. Now, certainly this world from the get go does work to pervert a child's natural innocent, free and unrestrictive-flowing energy. For that's the nature of this energy-taking paradigm-matrix we are all part of. But this doesn't mean children or you/me or anyone else are "bad." We all need each other to help and serve each other. Every individual is a unique conduit/channel for a specific purpose/message which must be brought into this world. All depression, pain, frustration and guilt is rooted in how we get separated from the truth behind what our true nature and purpose is - ie. which is to simply "be" this free/unconditional conduit for His Light, Energy and Love.
Try to fight or claim this purpose as something that you/I or anyone controls and you/I/anyone will only feel more and more frustrated. And when we're frustrated we naturally want to take/consume more energy from others, etc. And if they don't conditionally give it to us we blame/shame and move onto the next target, etc.
