Briggs out of hibernation

Heavyweight contender Shannon Briggs will return to ring action April 7 at the Coeur d'Alene Casino in Worley, Idaho, the same location where he blasted out Eric Curry in one round last November. Since then, Briggs had sat on the sidelines hoping for a chance to face his old Brooklyn neighbor Mike Tyson. Now that the Tyson camp has selected David Izon as the next opponent, Briggs is planning to fight once a month from now through December. "I have been chopping wood under the hot South Florida sun for two and a half months," Briggs said. "Moe Smith [boxing maven from the CDA Casino] gave me a lumberjack training routine which was used by legendary manager Doc Kearns' fighters and I use it religiously. I'm calling out all the names....Tyson, Michael Grant, David Tua. You name him and I will fight him if the price is right. I want to show people that the Shannon Briggs who went after Lennox Lewis like an axe murderer is more mature and totally focused on becoming heavyweight champion."

LPS5 note: Yawn. We were speaking about Emmanuel Lewis yesterday, well - Briggs was dropped by him, as I recall, because Lewis didn't think he had enough dedication to the sport.
