"normal involuntary attrition."

Not dead, just stunned

Cisco Systems received quite a bit of ribbing when it recently announced about 8,000 lay-offs. The reason was in its choice of words. Firing people is never pleasant, but Cisco tried to spin it as "normal involuntary attrition."

The San Francisco Chronicle contacted some linguistic experts who after much scratching of heads pronounced that the words were indeed English, but when placed together made little sense.
