The only relevant aspect is how much destruction (of legitimate bookstores) it caused while the idiots were throwing money at it.

Amazon remove almost all the remaining independant bookstores. They were struggling against the brick and mortar stores of Barnes and Noble and also Borders. Amazon was the final straw. The better independants could hold their own against Barnes and Noble and Borders. That was because the owners and the staff knew the books that were published well. Once Amazon started selling books at a loss, well human nature took over and people might go to an independant for advice but did not buy there anymore. There are very few remaining.

I wonder if short sell losses are covered by the class action suits.

It is my understanding that short sellers are taking a risk and there is no recourse for them. One should not be selling short unless they understand the risks. Any "artificial" stock appreciation due to management's comments and accounting is only protected by the litigation on the behalf of buyers. The Attorneys make out in these cases anyhow and the stockholders end up with nothing.

I wonder if any of the suits are targeting Morgan Stanley ?

None that I know of. The one that I thought would target Morgan Stanley would be the Ariba case where the accusation is Morgan Stanley provide their larger clients with IPO shares as long as they all bouhgt after the IPO to drive up the price. That is a pending case at the moment but it is targeted at Ariba not Morgan Stanley. I do not know why.

I hope Bezos is disgorged of all his ill-gotten millions

I really doubt this will happen but I sure wish it did. Bezos' strength seems to be understanding stock price movements so I doubt he would make a huge mistake here.
