SAN FRANCISCO, Mar 27, 2001 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- The
California Public Utilities Commission, as expected, Tuesday approved plans for
a 3-cent-per-kilowatt-hour rate increase for customers of the state's two
largest utilities. The commissioners said the hike, which translates to around
40 percent increase over current rates, was needed to help the state continue
buying electricity.
