"One of the things I believe the media has been remiss in examining is a person character prior to an election. And I'm not talking about who-slept-with-who. I'm talking about their style of leadership, do they fire people at a whim, are they even tempered, honest, decent people. In other words, are they assholes looking for power, or are they people who can be trusted, who have the best interest of the nation at heart. It's not an exact science, but the media could certainly do a lot better than it has."

Well said! Agree totally. I was leaning towards Gore until the debates showed his true 'style'. I believe there is a relationship between how people treat each other, and their underlying ethics.

What we need are 'statesmen', not politicians. Unfortunately, the election process favors 'glossy', well-spoken individuals who can read teleprompters and think of spiffy comebacks. We seem to want media heads, not true statesmen.

Question: will term limits promote a better or lesser crop of candidates?

Dear Mike and all: Right now I am PLENTY PISSED at GOVERNMENT in general, regardless of Party. I presume everyone on this thread has at least some investments or they wouldnt be on S.I. to begin with. Do you get the feeling ROME IS BURNING while NERO FIDDLES? Or am I the only one? The stock market, particularly techs is in FREE FALL. This VERY HARMFUL to future capital formation in America and I think represents a greater threat than any damn Communist. So what do they do, PRETEND to care about a Tax Cut, when all they are doing is trying to SCORE POINTS and avoid any tax cut at all and the least possible. Hell, there ought to be a MORATORIUM on Capital Gains taxes RIGHT NOW FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS. That would scare up investment capital. That IDIOT AG ought to be told drop the Reserve rate to 4% immediately or we send the CIA hit squad after you. Income taxes of all kinds should be cut, probably similar to GW's plan and lastly an immediately REFUND of $300 ought to be paid to every taxpayer who filed as a GOOD FAITH PAYMENT. You do all this at once SHOCK TREATMENT ITS CALLED and we can end this FINANCIAL DEBACLE. But, the BASTARDS will likely do as little as possibe as slow as possible. A POX ON THEIR HOUSES AND FAMILIES. JDN
