Does it really matter what the product mix is? It seems we have all - and I include myself in this - been assuming that higher ASP translates into higher margins. That is an assumption we may have to reconsider.

For instance, the highest ASP handset from Nokia is the communicator smart phone. Despite the high ASP Nokia does not make money on the phone. Similarly, it appears that Kyocera's latest PalmPhone gadget is more a mindshare win that a bottom line win, because like Nokia they aren't making much money on it.

If PALM makes a nice chunk of profit on each low-end model sold, then hey, let's have them sell more of those!
