I think that the problem is that there is no free market when it comes to energy distribution. The current energy barons have a total monopoly of a substance that is critical for civilization. We constantly demonize OPEC for doing the same thing that these energy barons are doing.

It's unlikely that anyone will build an infrastructure to compete with the current energy delivery system. It's not the same as building another department store. The free market rules don't apply.....there is no competition.
