Micron loss wider than expected (MU) By Janet Haney
Micron Technology (MU) reported late Thursday a loss that was worse than what analysts had projected. The Boise, Idaho company said its net loss for the second quarter was $88 million, or 15 cents a share. The numbers include the affects of net losses from two of Micron Electronics' operations. Analysts surveyed by First Call/Thomson Financial expected the chipmaker to lose 3 cents a share in its second quarter. Sales in the period reached $1.07 billion, compared with $1.2 billion last year. Micron was supposed to release its results last week, but postponed the date until its subsidiary Micron Electronics (MUEI) released its quarterly figures last Friday. Ahead of the news, shares of memory component maker Micron Technology added $1 to $45.52
