My in-laws are about to sell their house in Seattle.

They live in a pretty choice area of the city. Bought it for 16.5K in 1965, about to be listed in the 525K area. I'm encouraging them to move as quickly as possible for exactly those reasons.

East Coast and West Coast real estate has always been boom-bust.

The Midwest and, to a lesser extent, the south are much more stable real estate markets.

Dropping real estate prices in California should not be a surprise in the future.
