cfoe: Yes Sprint counts. But Sprint itself is vulnerable to a take over. In fact there is talk of Bell South taking over the parent company Sprint and therefore the wireless subsidiary Sprint.

Sadly the US has two companies which are the best bet for Qualcomm's CDMA 2000 both vulnerable to take over.

Nextel on the other hand is a strong independent US company and the irony may be that is will be the best means of getting Qualcomm's CDMA 1xEV-DV rolled out soonest and strongest in the US. An amazing switcheroo.

As I said before, I hope I am worrying needlessly, but I suggest we look reality in the eye.

The good news is Qualcomm wins regardless but on different paths than some of us may have assumed.

Also note that the rush to move for new spectrum in the US on the part of the administration may well have the fine hand of such players as AT&T involved because AT&T needs that spectrum desparately for use of WCDMA/UMTS while Sprint does not for CDMA 2000.

Best.

Waiting for WCDMA and waiting and waiting
Do you fellas really believe that a wireless industry including one hundred licensees of Qualcomm are going to post a sign on their door Gone fishing waiting for WCDMA.
These stocks (Nortel,Lucent, Motorola,Erickson and many others)are all ready in the toilet. THey have to move product very soon.By the time WCDMA is if ever it is ready there will be so many CDMA 2000 products out there and manufacturers protecting their interests.
Of course Nokia and Erickson do have about 100 billion in WCDMA orders on the table Ricky Roma and Shelly the machine Levine(Glengary/Glennross) would be very proud of that salesmanship.(I don't feel Verizon is going to roll over to Vodafone. They are definitely building a wireless giant of their own. TIMING
