Dawgy,

Depending on how old the scanner is...assuming it's under warranty, I'd ask for an RMA number and send it back to HP for a replacement. If it's under warranty insist on it.

If nothing else, sometimes when the manufacturer is faced with a unhappy customer who wants to return a possibly defective item, the customer service (tech support) becomes a little more cooperative.

Junkyardawg

Do you have StillImageMonitor checked to load at startup in your System Configuration Utility?

Hi Junkyardawg,
As the owner of an HP Scanjet 6200C scanner, I'm familiar with your frustration. I've installed it on Win98se and Win2000 machines with unreliable results in both cases. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't ("scanner can not be found" etc.) From the HP website, I ordered a software update CD (couriered free) which seemed to solve the problem -- for 3 days. Now, when the problem strikes, I unplug and replug the scanner's power cord, and reboot the computer once (or sometimes twice). I'm not sure if the cursing plays any role in the cure...

hey lamar

re, "I have spent about two months doing every freeking thing there is to do to get my scanner working and I still cannot get it to work"

i would humbly submit that you haven't tried everything there is to try, or else the scanner would be working. even if that one final thing to try is what dennis suggested, which is sending the darn thing back. <g3>

so unless you are fed up and have thrown ze scanner out ze window, here's yet another suggestion for going after this frustrating problem....

let us know, lamar
