Assuming licensing agreements, the business model for a Napster (read fee based) depends inherently on the Gnutellas failing. So Napster gets shut down, the market shifts over to the Gnutellas, Aimsters, etc... of the world and spawns a whole new generation of enabling software. It's like chasing the wind. The efficiency of the distribution becomes it's own demise.
