This is only money. There really are more important things. Really accept that and it gets much easier to stomach portfolio gyrations.

Now and then I do a "worst case scenario" which for me might be an Earth Quake that takes out the Bay Area... My investments would probably be cut in half again, if lucky and I live. I might have to sleep in my back yard if the house falls down... but at least I'd have good neighbors to talk to as we compare our makeshift tents and recipes for cooking birds we get with my pellet rifle.

#1 is personal health. #2 is friends and family. Can't enjoy #2 without #1. "A large sum of money" is way down on the list for what you need to be happy (but is sure as hell makes it easier if you have it!)
