The point being, they can still sell the defective Nokia phones at this point and replace them with 1X capable phones later. But if the service providers have contracts which allow them to return them with minimal loss, I'm sure they will.

Why not just pull the handsets now and sell them the equivalent Kyocera/Audiovoxx? It would be cheaper than replacing the handsets later with 1x handsets. If Verizon/Alltel didnt replace the handsets I think it would really piss customers off if they were constantly in analog mode.

I guess we will have to reserve judgement until we see more facts. Perhaps they can correct the problem by tweaking the 1x standard. Hmmm....maybe if they ask Qualcomm real nice <g>.
