Jim,

I think your "MHz sells" rule will be under a severe test. If this new Cyrix chips sees a light of day and reaches 1.2 GHz, I wonder what the performance would be. The current core with medium length pipe is outclassed by Duron. Once they move to 17 stage pipeline, the performance will only get worse. The addition of OOO seems to be limited to MMX (SSE ?) unit, which probably will not help that much overall.

They figured it out years ago. This is not a newly introduced design. It's something that has been on the drawing board for quite some time (though it has undergone changes here and there).
