Chic, there is a substantial difference between the level of the financial markets last summer and the dollar index and today. The rate of change is the more important issue which is making the economic outlook quite bad.

People under shock stop thinking it is this state is counter productive and only fasten the spiral down. That is the difference between so called "soft landing" and crash. From a soft landing you can recover and move ahead from a crash your bones are broken takes much longer to recover.

I would agree with you that the missguided FED monetary policy since summer of 1998 lead to the present situation.
