But the timeframe you specified Q1 2002 coincides with the timeframe of AMD's own process to be released. I don't know where AMD will be compared to IBM at theat time, but wouldn't it somehow undermine AMD's own process technology?

Well the assumption is that AMD feels the IBM process will
be faster or in some way the agreement will benefit AMD. You don't sign such an agreement if your process is better. You don't think IBM solicited AMD? Perhaps these chips will just compliment AMD's process. As for the timing, I think the re map of the .13um AMD mobile chip into the IBM process would have to be done all ready and IBM ready to fab almost now to intro the chip by the forth quarter. I don't think IBM is even ready with their .13um SOI process until the second half of the year. So Q1 2002 is even pushing it. Also, (remember) IBM can force their SOI technology into the main stream with such an agreement by simply buying back those very chips and introducing them in their laptops. If AMD's design is superior (surely all ready evaluated by IBM) and IBM really likes their own process, why wouldn't IBM want to do this?? Somehow, I don't think AMD would mind. Enough speculation.
