I think that makes it pretty clear that the 'downturn in the economy' was really a downturn in the markets. At least so far. With so many Americans newly invested and now feeling this pain for perhaps the first time, we might be seeing the pocketbooks close... but who knows. Americans like to spend money whether or not they have it. ;)
