limtex: You are right that the US will be a, if not the, battleground between CDMA 2000 and W-CDMA (UMTS).

It is exactly for that reason that the Europeans, and specifically Vodafone (even though UK, its major holdings are in Europe, narrowly or broadly construed) are ratcheting up the pressure on Verizon to "not make a final decision yet".

Keep as much doubt out there as possible.
