It's a tough call; would they rather have more exclusivity, or more money? Money could buy that power, or they could lose power by a lack of it. Competition from cable news channels may lose will lose some of that monopoly, especially during election time. I know that I spent NO time watching the big four to get my political situation news; I split between CNBC and FOX (well, I guess I just contradicted myself; I DID watch the big four).

You may be right, but I think they opt for the bucks and not the extra air time.
