09:14 ET Microsoft (MSFT) 55 9/16: -- Update -- Merrill Lynch's Henry Blodget says Tech Data's (TECD) conference call has implications for MSFT. Bad news is that Tech Data's forecasts suggest weak overall IT demand and weakness has spread to Europe, which accounts for 20% of Microsoft revenues. Good news is TECD mgmt. singled out desktop PC demand as an area of strength vs. other IT products. Desktop PCs accounted for 80% of total PCs in 2000. Comments add weight to the view that the PC cycle may have bottomed, but still too early to call the bottom.
