" Demand for broadband wireless access is unquestioned. This network was only ready to be marketed on a broad scale within the last few months. WCOM commences a major campaign next week. MCOM will be adding tiered pricing plans by the end of 2Q01. With very little additional capex, you will see launches in other cities very soon (Salt Lake city, Chicago, etc.) So-called competition is not real. ATT's AWE is using GPRS, with field data rates only around 30kbps (not the quoted burst rate of 144k), and VZ's 1xrtt similarly is likely to only get 50kbps or so in the real world. Further, those rates won't be fully deployed for those telcos until late '02 if they are lucky. MCOM has a huge lead and it is not being challenged. The telcos offering data will charge dearly for it, it is planned only as another 'calling feature,' NOT as a means to access large data files through a corporate VPN or surf the web for information Ricochet regularly offers over 200 kbps more than 50% of the time right now, at much more competitive pricing. Speed upgrade within a year will boost that significantly, to over 256k over 80% of the time and over 300-400k perhaps 50% of the time. PA and WCOM are not walking away, and there is no BK coming. Watch and learn.
