Nice post, I agree with most of what you said. I personally thought 2500 would have been reasonable on the NAS, I believe the rest of this downleg is due to the economic slowdown that nobody seemed to have seen coming last summer... I don't know about the 'household stock ownership' issue - this tends to fluctuate over the long term based on what the market does. We all know the story about the 'shoeshine boy giving tips in 1929', and the converse in the early 1980's when nobody wanted to own stock since the market had been in the crapper for almost ten years due to the 1973-1974 bear... No question we are near the bottom, we are all wondering now whether we get the V/U/L recovery... As for the analysts, I read/listen but make my own decisions, we all know they don't work for you and me. It's too bad folks like Mary Meeker, Walt Piecyk, and Henry Blodget got so much press, and probably cost newbie investors so much money with the internut madness... Finally, since this NAZ bear is now the worst one in history, surpassing the '73-'74 one by a couple percent, I agree there is money to be made by the brave. Of course the tricky part is trying to determine which of the fallen go the 'nifty fifty' route and which rise from the ashes... But that is how it always is.

Good luck,
John
