Why would you want to dispose of them? :)

Personally, I think that tax records should be kept indefintely. You never know when you will need them.

For example, have you checked your Social Security record lately? Are there years where you paid Social Security tax, but for some reason it isn't recorded with the SSA?

You'd be in for some tough luck if you'd disposed of your tax records.

Some people may not get around to checking into this until they retire, and may find that they have a "hole" 20 years back.
